Do I need a Head of Security?

If you've raised a Series A or B and you don't have a single person who owns security, you are taking a significant risk. Your investors, enterprise customers, and regulators will all ask who is responsible for protecting the company. At this stage, you need a leader who can be both strategic and hands-on.

// 02

What do they actually do?

Your first security leader is a player-coach. They build the security roadmap, hire the first members of the team, select the core security tools, and represent security to the rest of the business. They translate technical risk into business impact for you and your board.

// 03

When should I hire one?

The ideal time is right after your Series A. At this stage, you need a leader who can lay the foundation for a scalable security program. Waiting until your Series B or C means you will spend the first year fixing problems instead of building for the future.
